Childhood Like a Dream

This was the location of part one of this story. Both parts can now be read here.

I left this location in place to preserve the comments.

I like how this story makes

I like how this story makes reference to Foy's crying as an old man. I think thats the first little glimpse of Foy as a senior citizen that we have gotten.

I also have to ask, has that guinea pig story ever happened to you? It sounds like it could happen, but I've never heard of anything like that...

Some of these things

Some of these things happened to me. Some are similar to things that happened to me. Some didn't happen at all. We had a Guinea pig. He was never paralyzed and unable to move.

If you learn more about how

If you learn more about how to use views to do specific tasks without programming I think the non-programmer Drupal community can benifit from more tutorials like this. Views is awesome and powerful, but can be confusing. thx.

Look

I like how we get to look at Foy from so many angles, some deeply in his head and some far removed. Foy gets more and more character each time.

This is delightfully funny!

This is delightfully funny! I love "the first of many Copernican revolutions"--and at the same time I find this particular part of the story, and the whole thing, very moving.

Born in 1960

From the perspective of someone born long before 1960 I find the phrase "as long as he lived, and as an old man" intriguing. Have to wonder if this leads somewhere or not.

Fort Davis on Google Earth

I had to look up Bloys Ave. in Fort Davis on Google Earth. With their StreetView feature you can actually see pictures taken on the street.
Makes the Foy story all the more real.

This person has become so

This person has become so real to me now, that I take delight in wandering along, discovering his story as we go.

It's incredible fun for me to see that people are enjoying the story with me. I always ran back here and read the comments, smiling.

So, thanks everyone. I'm working on the next part, which will give attention to Foy's mother.

As someone who grew up in

As someone who grew up in the "real desert" and spent a fair portion of her childhood in and around Ft Davis, this story makes me smile. Well done, sir.

Now. More please?

Oh, that makes me very

Oh, that makes me very happy. I'm taking my memories from life in El Paso and kind of slipping them to the East. I was hoping I was getting it right.

You're getting it right for

You're getting it right for an El Paso girl :)

A very satisfying read.

A very satisfying read. More please...

Philosophy lesson

"Things still exist after you let go of them in the darkness."

True for boogers and, sadly, true for so many other things as well.

Ditto.

Ditto.

Tonsillectomy

My own father who would be 95 years old now if he had lived, had his tonsils taken out exactly the way you describe here. Only he said it didn't hurt a bit. I think he lied. He likely said that to encourage me as I was about to undergo my own (anesthetized) tonsillectomy.

Another good story, thanks

But crap! Foy is younger than I am.

By the way, I'm reading these backward. I love Foy's mother, too.
