I can’t believe it.
You wanted to know the truth.
Yeah, but...
That’s why I warned you. But you had to know.
I still can’t believe it.
“I want to know the truth. About God, Jesus, who shot JFK, life, Darwin, all of it.” That’s what you said; that’s what you told me.
But I just. I don’t want to know this. I don’t know what to do now. How to act or be.
You’ll find a way to deal with it. Everyone does. It’s all part of the journey.
So that guy was right?
What guy?
That one guy. Who was always saying that stuff about, you know, all that stuff we talked about. I hate that guy. He was right?
Yep.
See, that’s the part that really gets me. I mean it’s all shocking, but that guy was right? THAT GUY?
Well, technically he was wrong too, but he was more right than you were. Technically. Of course, it depends on how you look at it.
What do you mean?
Well, if he was here - if your positions were reversed - I’d be telling him that you were right. Or more right than he was anyway.
What? You mean everyone’s right?
I wouldn’t say that. No.
Everyone’s wrong?
More or less. If you feel like you have to say something, I guess that’s the best way to say it. Yeah, everyone’s wrong.
Oh my God. Wait. Should I say that now? Now that...
No one cares if you say that or don’t.
Okay. Oh my God. My life. What was I living for? What were we all living for? Think about how much time I...all the arguments, the hours I spent talking like I knew something, thinking I really did know something.
Stop.
What? What did I do?
Nothing. Just stop. Right now, how you feel. Bewildered, lost, unsure, humble, insignificant.
Yeah.
That’s how you’re supposed to feel. You really are a very small creature in this universe. And now you know that. I guess you always knew it, but now you REALLY know it. So however you got here, it’s okay because you’re here and you’re the way you’re supposed to be.
Oh, so that’s why everyone is...
Wrong?
Yeah.
Right.
Heh. That’s really funny, now that I think about it.
Ooh, you’ve added a little humor to the mix. Very nice. Yes, you’re ready. Don’t say anything else. No, don’t speak. Don’t think anything else. Just stay like you are right now.
You’re ready to begin.

Yesterday's lectionary was a series of parables about what the kingdom of heaven is like, and the pastor used the metaphor that that was like the blind men and the elephant story. While searching for images and ideas for the graphics, I came across this bit of wisdom on the subject from Pogo (by Walt Kelly): Pogo stated that "each of the blind men was partly right". Churchy Lafemme replies, "yeah, but they were all mostly wrong."

My N.T. prof at college used the blind men and the elephany story. I had never heard it before, but I loved it and will always remember it.

Interesting - will take some pondering, but I like the tone of it.
It follows from your parable
It follows from your parable that the conversation therein renders some truth and some error about reality. Albert Einstein believed that everything that occurs is completely deterministic. Overtime I am moving closer and closer to his view. Most of what we perceive about reality is quite likely illusory -- most strikingly, perhaps, about our own minds and behaviors. If science ever discovers an iron-clad unifying theory of physics, it may well prove your parable's paradoxically maddening and comforting conclusion: "So however you got here, it’s okay because you’re here and you’re the way you’re supposed to be."
I do indeed feel small.
(Thanks for another great offering ...)

I really like this. I've often wondered how to make sense of myself as a person who holds certain viewpoints (Christian, left-leaning politically, etc), yet still tries to be open-minded towards other viewpoints. Doesn't one of us have to be right? Every human thinks their opinion or viewpoint is the right one, that's why they choose to take it. The parable is moving because it eliminates this contradiction and replaces it with humility and smallness. Thank you.
Ummmm....
...Huh? Whiskey tango foxtrot, over?
