Dong Yun Yoon

Perhaps you were waiting the inevitable lawsuit following the Marine pilot's crash into a California neighborhood. Korean immigrant Dong Yun Yoon, a very devout Christian, isn't interested in lawsuits and has already forgiven the pilot. Moreover, he is concerned that the pilot may have long-lasting grief and sorrow over this terrible event. Read the Story

Thanks for making sure we see good examples

It's rare that the good are raised up. Thank you for taking time to share this and reminding us what following Christ looks like.

Brave man

-
I saw a video clip of him yesterday (probably the same from which the above still was taken) and I was amazed that he was able to speak at all, let alone as coherently as he did. In the midst of that kind of grief, I don't know that I could do the same. Pray I never have to.

This is such an sad sad

This is such an sad sad story. And I don't understand the father's reaction. How on earth can someone both believe in and respect a god in the face of this kind of tragedy? I can't help but think that this man's religious belief is causing him to dishonor the memory of his family. I hope the father is just in shock and changes his mind eventually. The pilot SHOULD feel guilt and sorrow for the rest of his life for abandoning his aircraft and essentially murdering 3 innocent people.

Wait a minute? What are you

Wait a minute? What are you talking about?

1. How is this man dishonoring his family? I can only assume you think some violent, angry, or litigious response WOULD honor them. I think that response on your part is pretty shameful.

2. How do you know what went on with this pilot? Perhaps he did all he could do. How can you pass judgment so quickly? I'm always amazed at how little it takes for some people to claim certain knowledge. That's how lynch mobs work. You think the pilot is guilty - for whatever reasons you have and they aren't supported by facts since the facts aren't known - and so he IS guilty.

And you're sure enough of the pilot's guilt to make brash statements like this in a public forum? Wow, I can only pray that you're never on a jury.

Gosh, you sure are snippy,

Gosh, you sure are snippy, RLP.
I just don't understand how anyone could not respond to this type of thing without anger. I love my family so I will be very angry if they are murdered. Violence and litigation are different. I don't ever believe in lawsuits. violence either.
And no, I don't know what went on with the pilot but he should feel guilty regardless. And take responsibility - even if it was a true accident.

I meant - I just don't

I meant - I just don't understand how anyone could respond to this type of thing without anger.

And why wouldn't you want me on a jury?!?!

FluffyN, I regret saying

FluffyN,

I regret saying that to you. You were angry when you read the article. I got angry when I read your comment. And I was on a jury recently where it was once again clear to me how critical it is that we allow people to be innocent until proven guilty.

I guess, in the light of dong Yun Yoon's willingness to give the pilot the benefit of the doubt, I was offended that you didn't.

Guilt?

Murdered? Do you think there was an intent to kill?

And the pilot should feel guilt for what? Because he ejected when he realized that he could not prevent the crash?

It is all very sad. But why is it necessary to place a burden of guilt on someone when an accident happens?

"Whose fault is it when a child is born blind?" - Jesus.

Sorry for multiple comments

Sorry for multiple comments - I keep hitting post instead of preview.
You're right - I was out of line regarding the pilot. Personally, I would consider it murder if my family were killed by any means, but that doesn't make it actual real legal murder.
I guess I just feel like the father's religion in this case is making him act irrationally. Forgiveness is fine, but I can't imagine that he really feels that way right now. I also find it creepy how his church community swarmed on him. He's never seen without a whole gang of church people. I'd think he'd want to be alone at a time like this.

Heavy response

I was really impressed with Dong Yun Yoon and his church. It might be exactly what he needs, right now - their support. I'm reminded of the extreme compassion showed by the Amish community when their children literally were murdered.

I've also sat in a hut in Burundi, Africa as survivors of the genocide sat face to face with perpetrators and forgave them of the atrocities inflicted upon their families. I learned then that compassion and forgiveness are incredible gifts from the Divine and when bestowed they are nothing short of miraculous.

I hope such tragedies never touch you or your family, but I do hope you get to witness or experience love of this kind.
peace to you,
anna

I slipped through time and could feel my own sixteen year old self. Five of us in my mom's '65 Cutlass convertible, top down, cruising the 55 miles around Lake Washington, singing along with the radio but, most of all, hoping those cute guys at the stop sign would notice us.
