Someone sent me a link to this article, which captivated me completely. I've read it twice now.
The article reveals that Mother Teresa was plagued with doubts about the existence of God. Her faithfulness to her calling in the face of her spiritual sadness and despair only makes her more of a hero to me.
The Dark Night of the Soul is a part of the Christian journey that is not talked about much. It doesn't market well, and our market-driven church isn't interested in stories like this.
That's too bad because we are in desperate need of such heroes, and an entire generation of thoughtful and sensitive people have been cut off from the Christian community because they were told their doubts and their inquiring minds made them unworthy.
I thank God for Mother Teresa. The highest kind of spirituality is a loving commitment to service. I believe that kind of fierce commitment is not diminished in God's eyes if, weary and exhausted from the hardest kind of love, you find yourself unable to pronounce His name.
