A Christmas Story You've Never Heard

October 22, 2005 - 1:06pm

As an experiment, I decided to publish this CD myself instead of going through a publishing company or other agency. All the recording and editing work was done by Ben King of Talking Taco Music, Covita, and me. Ben's company is handling the shipping.

About The Christmas Story:
In December of 2003, I wrote a dramatized version of the Christmas story, taking the scripture details and fleshing them out in new way. This is a Christmas story you've never heard before. The story is written in the same style as my RLPDV (Real Live Preacher Dramatized Version) stories.

excellent! I think I need that CD for my collection. I always like how you flesh out these stories.
It reminds me; one of my friends wrote a song with decidedly RLP lyric. The song is called "Something Great" and the lyric is:
"Jesus said to Peter, 'Sugar, cast down your rod. We're goin' fishing tonight/we're goin' fishing for God.'
Pete said to Jesus, 'When you talk about love/ I get the feeling someone great has come.'"

Hey RLP, this is off-topic, but I just thought of you and had to let you know!

I've been listening to CBC radio today, and from 2:00-2:45 (EDT) there was this amazing interview on the program "Tapestry" with Bishop John Shelby Spong. I think you'd be interested in what this guy has to say - he is so well-spoken, I stopped what I was doing to just sit and listen. If you're around, the program will probably be playing for the rest of the day today in various time zones across Canada. You can check the program guide and find a streaming broadcast in the appropriate time zone.

Anyway, hope you're having a lovely day! Cheers.

Spong is one of the writers that I found long ago that let me know that it was OK to use my intellect when approaching scripture. I'd say he isn't so off-topic. I'd be surprised if Spong wouldn't enjoy RLPDV.

I will order my copy in the coming week, and I put a link up to this post on my blog as well. Hope all is well this Sunday.

I have to tell you that I am new to your site and have been scrolling through your archives. I wanted to say I happened upon your December 30 2002 essay and was blown away. You see I am young yet and am awaiting with fear my first sermon in a pulpit. I have never wanted to preach, only to be a missionary. God is blowing my mind right now. I just wanted to say thanks for such a beautiful outline of how to approach ministry and preaching.

This is sort of off topic...but I believe you can actually use "media mail" as a mailing option. It's the cheapest form of postage..but it's not the fastest. However it is designed for books, cds, etc. I don't know why the Postal Service has "media mail" but you might wanna check into it.

Merry Christmas :)

Love,
Pepe

Hey P,
I'm not in charge of the shipping on this thing. Ben K knows the deal, so I'm letting him handle it.

Curious what options you'll be using for overseas users to download from.

iTunes doesn't exist to NZ users, but other options might be interesting. Otherwise, I'll have to look at shipping.

It will be available in many places. If not, I'll make the download available myself. The files have been sent to a number of download locations, but we're waiting for them to actually put them online.

That was Awesome!   I sat at my desk enthralled and enchanted.  The first chapter is very inspiring.  Now I want one; only I don't use credit or debit cards.  (Bad experience, bad credit.)  I am ready for the RLP experience for all to hear.  Keep up the good work and continue with the midrash.

Sparky, paypal allows you to pay with a check if you have a checking account. If that doesn't work, send me an email with your address and I'll give you an address where you can mail cash if you want.

Excellent.. I will be ordering one for myself, and several more to give as gifts this Christmas.  I haven't ordered yet because I want to figure out with my husband how many we'll want.  I'm looking forward to it.  You recreate the stories incredibly well, and your speaking voice is wonderful.  I'm glad you were able to make this dream come true.
