Coming Soon...

Hey there. I've written a "State of the Blog" address, so to speak, wherein I talk about the future of Real Live Preacher. What are my plans? What do I see ahead? That sort of thing. Everything changes, including the life and voice of a writer. This blog has certainly changed over the last three years. I went through a time where it seemed like everything I wrote had a more obvious "Christian" feel to it, which bothered me for some reason. Lately I feel like I'm finding my old voice again. That makes me happy. It's not like I have a whole lot of control over it. I rarely plan my writing, preferring to just follow what's in my guts.

Today I'm trying to create an audio file using a compressor along with my MBox. I'm planning on a more regular production of audio files and, hopefully, a podcast. I think that would be fun. First I have to master the process of recording, which isn't as easy as it would seem. After that, it's just a matter of taking a little extra time to record the stuff I write.

So today I'll be doing that. I'll probably post the state of the blog address either tomorrow or Thursday. And then there are two finished essays coming right on the heels of that.

See ya soon,

A podcast of RLP could be interesting . . . I would certainly give it a listen.

I subscribe to 7 or 8 and listen in the gym (for the most part). My one piece of unsolicted advice :) is keep it shorter than longer. The 15:00 - 18:00 minute range seems to be about the limit for me. Longer than that and it has to be extremely compelling to commit to. I find myself seeing a 45:00 long podcast and thinking "ummm . . . nope".

I agree with you Bill, I often listen to the bibleonradio.com broadcast on the way to work, and they have just shortened it from 25 min to about 18 min. It's much more managable on my 20 min commute to work on the bus. I decided to follow the One Year Bible Blog this year and try to post regular comments there and posts at my site too. Listening to christian podcasts is a great way to receive communications and news, usually without the Christian Radio station guff.

rlp, looking forward to the essays and the podcast too.

What I'm envisioning would be about ten minutes long. I don't like to waste words.

A podcast would be AWESOME! I love your essays and would truly enjoy listening to them in my car, at work, wherever! God Bless-Mark

I have used several methods along the way for encoding into MP3. Most recently I have found this which makes it very easy. It was worth worth the $200 bucks to me compared to some of the other methods I had used.

For mp3 encoding, why not LAME?

I am as antiquated as 8 track tapes compared to you, G. I have no idea what you're talking about but I know it's cool coming from you.

Here's something on the state of the blog: quotes from RLP have made it on www.quotationspage.com ! I suppose it is in the section "collected on the internet". I was reading quotes on writing (reading quotes is easier than actually writing) and read something that sounded familiar!
