Thought For The Day

August 10, 2006 - 7:24am

As most of you know, I'm completely wrapped up in trying to get my Christmas story done by the end of August. So it's a little harder for me to find the time/energy for blogging. I mean, there's only so much writing a person can do in a month without starting to force it.

So, I thought maybe you'd like this.

And Now...

A Thought For The Day, by Real Live Preacher

Coming soon...um, some other thoughts for other days, I guess.

heh.

Bahahaha.

It's not even 10:30 and already I've found two things to make me laugh. Thanks.

(for the record, the other was a quote from a Time.com article about Samuel L. Jackson:
“Snakes on a Plane, out Aug. 18, fulfills his love of B-movie suspense and his endless desire to watch himself kick ass.”

So you're in excellent company.)

heh...sounds like me...every day.

Honesty is the best policy, but insanity is a better defense.

Submitted by Anonymous User on August 10, 2006 - 10:16am.

This reminds me of the old Kevin Nealon routine, "Did you ever wonder?....Did you know?....You know, sometimes I stop and think." RLP, have you ever thought about doing a comedy open mike?

(This comment, probably to no one's surprise, originates from the Los Angeles area....)

Aww... haha That was great! I was originally sitting here thinking my goodness SPIT IT OUT!

Too Funny!!!! Reminds me of "Deep Thoughts" by Jack Handy. Used to be on Saturday Night Live, I think... Thanks for the smile!

Very funny!

I had the exact same (deep) thought as Anonymous above. Reminded me of Jack Handy. He was born in San Antonio you know...

Submitted by Anonymous User on August 10, 2006 - 12:08pm.

You? Without words? Or thoughts? I never thought I'd see the day! That was hysterical!

Submitted by Anonymous User on August 10, 2006 - 12:20pm.

Cinema verite! Bravo!

Submitted by Larry on August 10, 2006 - 12:31pm.

So tickled I watched it twice.
Really well executed. Nuanced, everything.

I watched it twice thinking I'd missed it the first time.

So you got me twice hahaha.

On a day when I, too, most definitely "got nothin," this was a big relief to me.

The way you freeze framed the video, I thought for sure you were going to be laying down your mad rappin skillz.

However, I was not disappointed. Maybe a future "thought for the day" will be in rap form. Something to ponder...

Submitted by theresa on August 10, 2006 - 4:10pm.

Brilliant.

Submitted by Anonymous User on August 10, 2006 - 4:54pm.

Did you have gas? You reminded me of a video that was done 10 or more years ago of a televangelist who was exuberantly preaching and someone had dubbed over farting noises at pecise moments. It was hilarious! All you lacked were the sound effects!

Man! I knew you were a brilliant writer, but after getting a load of your facial expressions, I realized you're a gifted actor, too!!! Fantastic!

Like Curt from KC I too was wondering whether you had a bad dose of constipation! :-) It reminded me of our son when he was potty training but not quite as messy (at least I hope not).

Hilarious. I'm not sure I've ever seen a preacher at a loss for words. I wish more of them were!

Submitted by Anonymous User on August 11, 2006 - 7:50am.

I do not ever use the term LOL in my blog writings but that is absolutely the only way to describe what I did when I watched your thought for the day. Maybe, just maybe, you'll enjoy my You Know You're A Baptist If...list. Can I add your site to my favorite blogs?

Submitted by Anonymous User on August 11, 2006 - 8:42am.

Really, I didn't find this so much funny as honest and real. I wish more of us would realize that sometimes we just don't have anything to say.

Submitted by Anonymous User on August 11, 2006 - 9:25am.

Hmm.
I'll have to ponder those words...so many possible directions. The Desert Fathers and Mothers have a similar way of speaking...

Uh, what was I thinking, um, of? That should have been tabula rasa.

1st - I know of your quasi-secret desire to be a stand up comic (we have a "talent" show at the church and Gordon has attempted that avocation on at least one occasion.

I've learned not judge.

2nd - I have to admit my first thoughts ran toward the gastrointestinal as well.

3rd - Are you prepared for a new level of Internet fame as a "viral video?"

love,

Yes, Jack Handey Lives! This was great fun. I love the deeply concerned expression of concentration.

The wisdom was palpable!

Submitted by jmmj on August 13, 2006 - 8:16pm.

This is why I don't worry about missing the sermon when I've got duty with the children in the back. I mean, even if you had something to share would it be better than being with Isabel, Emma, and Maddie?

Liked the Tilton moment though.

Submitted by Anonymous User on August 14, 2006 - 8:35am.

Huh?
That was, uh, was, well you know... what was I saying? Ah, yeah, that was somehow, well... {Laura could you bring me some, uh, ah, umm, coffee... no, make that tea... with lemon... no, milk... wait, coff... What? Make up my what? ah don't worry about it} so yeah, that was, well, really somehow, something.
