This, That, and the Other Thing

Just a quick check-in with you. I have a few things going on over the next couple of days. The second half of the Foy story is almost finished. I'll have it online soon.

Tom is now a minister at our church, which is a very cool thing for a number of reasons. Perhaps God isn't through with Tom being a minister. I say he's a minister at our church, but we don't have any extra money to pay him anything...yet. Maybe we'll figure that part out as we go. Anyway, he and I are leaving today to head to Dallas to see what Texas Baptists as a whole are up to. Kind of a road trip for ministers, you might say. To be honest I have a hard time caring what ANY large group of Christians are doing. I'm thinking small these days, limiting my energy and concern for what my own community is called to do. I don't mean that I don't care about the other stuff, it just seems like a waste of your life to invest too much of it in large organizations. They will always break your heart.

Netflix is out and Blockbuster is in. Now that Netflix has been found to engage in "throttling," the service doesn't make as much sense. I noticed this before the lawsuit. I used to have movies around all the time, and then not so much. Let me tell you why Blockbuster is the way to go. They have a new program. You can turn in your online movie rentals at any Blockbuster store, where they scan them. The online service reads that scan immediately and your movie is marked as returned. The next movie in your queue is marked for shipping. And the big news...wait for it...they give you a free movie rental for each online movie that you turn in at a store. First run movies included. If you have a Blockbuster store near you, this effectively doubles the number of movies you can rent.

My wife's collection of soulful jewelry is just about ready to go online. Ten pieces are in the first offering; all of them are one-of-a-kind things. Most of the Anglican Rosaries can also be worn as a necklace. We're just finalizing pricing and getting the shopping cart setup.

This is a pretty exciting thing for me. Jeanene is very creative, and this is a wonderful outlet for her.

I'll talk to you tomorrow, maybe show you some goofy pictures from a Baptist meeting.

That reminded me to go and cancel my Netflix account. I've had D.O.A., Crash, and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg sitting on top of the TV for over a year.

Let's see... 12 months, $15/month...

Never mind. I don't want to know.

Yeah, the Blockbuster thing is pretty cool. Just got it recently.

I used to favor Netflix as the "underdog," but my procrastinating, forgetful self has really enjoyed my switch to blockbuster.

Thanks for the info. We just decided not to get cable at our new place and were thinking of getting a netflix or blockbuster subscription for ourselves for christmas. Leaning towards blockbuster now.

Hey Gordon,

Make sure you include a bunch of pictures with Baptist preachers and their short ties resting on their bellies. That's how we picture baptist preachers; that is how they endear themselves to us. Thanks

Short ties, resting on their bellies? Oh, yeah, that's why I quit wearing them.

It's been a long time since I went to a Baptist group meeting. I'm pretty much concentrating on the local stuff too.

Ater reading the Texas Baptists' views on homosexuality, I agree that I'd have a hard time caring about what these folks are doing, either. These dinosaurs are still living in the dark ages...

From their website: Homosexual behavior is sin
The Baptist General Convention of Texas position expressed at the 1982 convention has never been changed: "The homosexual lifestyle is not normal or acceptable in God’s sight and is indeed called sin."

I'm looking forward to those goofy pictures of baptists! (Especially since I are one.)

And thanks for the link to Hill Country Writer!

I ended up not taking a single picture.
