I don't know when I first met Ben King. I probably heard some of his music when I was hanging around Viva Books in the mid to late 90s. Anyway, somehow I ended up doing the website for Ben's company, Talking Taco Music. Whenever Ben needed the site updated, I'd do the work and he would send me a box of unusual music. I mean, stuff you've never heard of. My middle daughter and I looked forward to these boxes with great anticipation. I'd come in carrying the box and we would tear it open and dig through the CDs.

"Cool, 19th century Sephardic romances."
"Look Dad, 18th century English drinking songs."
"I got dibs on any pirate music."

Ben is a serious musician and a man who has always had a heart for music on the edges of our culture. It was his guitar music that was the background to last year's Christmas audio book. And he's doing the music for the new CD this fall. Along the way we've become pretty good friends. We've also talked a lot about doing a spiritual music blog here at RLP, and now we've done it. Ben is in charge of it. His musical knowledge is broad, and our goal is to introduce music that most people have never heard of. This is NOT the stuff you find just anywhere, if you know what I mean.

It's spiritual music, not necessarily Christian music. Ben's first offering includes some wonderful Celtic music, a Hasiddic Jew who sings Reggae, and some African American spirituals from inmates of Angola State Prison.

You get the idea. We've provided links so that you can listen to the music and buy individual songs or a CD if you like. Ben will be adding new music all the time. AND, you can leave comments and tell us all about music that you like.

This is going to be fun!
